The member states of the European Union have approved this Friday to renew until 2024 the mandate of its civil mission in Niger, which from now on will be able to exchange intelligence information with the EU Justice and Interior agencies.
The two-year extension of this mission will be accompanied by an allocation of 72 million euros to finance its activity, the EU Council reported in a statement.
The civil mission in Niger, which celebrated its tenth anniversary this summer, was created with the aim of helping the country combat terrorism and organized crime through an integrated, coherent, sustainable and human rights-based approach among the various actors. of Niger security.
It provides advice and training to the Nigerien authorities in strengthening their capacities and has more than 100 international experts, most of whom belong to European security forces and justice departments, permanently deployed in Niamey.
This mission is part of European efforts to promote stability and peace in the Sahel, along with other initiatives such as civil operations in Mali and the Central African Republic, which in turn have EU military missions, or the Advisory Cell and EU Regional Coordination for the Sahel (RACC).
