In October of last year, for example, 41 states in the United States and the District of Columbia filed a class action lawsuit arguing that these platforms are harmful and addictive for minors.
According to the lawsuit coming from both Republican and Democratic lawmakers, the company deliberately implemented addictive features in its apps that have a detrimental impact on your mental health and even contribute to eating disorders.
“Children and adolescents are suffering record levels of poor mental health and social media companies, like Meta, are to blame,” said Attorney General Letitia James at the time.
James also added that Mark Zuckerberg’s company “has profited from children’s pain by intentionally designing their platforms with manipulative features that make them addicted while lowering their self-esteem.
