The EU has declared ‘persona non grata’ and will therefore expel Nicaragua’s top diplomatic representative in Brussels in reciprocal response to the expulsion from Managua of the European bloc’s ambassador, Bettina Muscheidt.
“At the initiative of the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, the Council has today agreed that the head of the mission of the Republic of Nicaragua to the European Union be declared ‘persona non grata'”, explained Brussels it’s a statement.
The EU has highlighted that it is a “reciprocal response” after the decision of the Nicaraguan government on September 28 by which it declared the community ambassador ‘persona non grata’. “The EU considers this Nicaraguan decision unjustified,” she pointed out.
Nicaragua ordered the expulsion of Muscheidt after the EU delegation to the United Nations demanded the release of political prisoners and the return of democracy to the people of Nicaragua.
