The Member States of the European Union agreed this Tuesday to launch the European Union Diplomatic Academy (EUDA), which will begin its courses next September.
With a budget of 1.7 million euros to begin its activity until the 2027-2028 academic year, the institution will provide education and training in the field of EU external action, in particular the Common Foreign and Security Policy, to diplomats. of Member States and staff of EU institutions.
The idea is to “develop and promote a common understanding of the EU’s role in the world”, “disseminate best practices in relation to the conduct of EU diplomacy” and “consolidate the spirit of a ‘European diplomatic corps'” .
The activities will be carried out in collaboration with the College of Europe, with its main headquarters in Bruges, Belgium. Ultimately, the academy seeks to generate a critical mass of European diplomats who possess a deeper understanding of the principles, objectives, values, interests and global role of the EU to effectively deal with European issues, whether stationed in Brussels, in national structures or in other destinations.
