The EU condemns the suicide attack on a mosque in Pakistan

BRUSSELS, 30 Jan. () –

The European Union has condemned the suicide attack perpetrated this Monday inside a mosque in the Pakistani city of Peshawar, capital of the province of Jiber Pajtunjua (north), which has left more than 30 dead and nearly 150 injured.

“The EU strongly condemns the attack against the faithful at a mosque in Peshawar,” said the community spokesperson for Foreign Affairs Nabila Massrali in a message on social networks.

In this sense, he regretted the loss of life in the attack and wished all those injured a speedy recovery. “The EU supports Pakistan against terrorism. There is no room for hate and extremism in our societies,” she stressed.

Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), known as the Pakistani Taliban, have acknowledged responsibility for the suicide attack that has left 32 people dead, while another 147 have been injured, so it is not ruled out that the number of deaths will increase in the next few hours.

The suicide bomber had placed himself in the front row during a prayer that took place in the mosque before activating the explosive charge he was carrying, so the imam of the mosque has also died in the attack. The explosion has caused part of the roof of the place of worship to collapse.
