The EU condemns the launch of a new type of intercontinental ballistic missile by North Korea

16 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrel, this Saturday “strongly” condemned the launch of a long-range ballistic missile by North Korea.

“The repeated demonstrations by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) to continue developing the means to launch weapons of mass destruction threaten international peace and security. The DPRK must cease all illegal and dangerous actions that violate the resolutions of the Council of UN security forces and recklessly escalate military tensions in the region,” Borrel said in a statement.

In addition, he has urged North Korea to return to “immediate” compliance with the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) to ensure a “viable route to peace and security” on the Korean peninsula and not “wasting resources”. to the detriment of the “difficult living conditions of a large part of its population”.

The European Union has called on the international community, especially the members of the Security Council, to implement UN sanctions and to ask North Korea to resume dialogue to end tensions in the region.
