BRUSSELS, May 16. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The European Union has asked India on Tuesday to support Ukraine’s peace initiative and also pressure the Kremlin to agree to extend the agreement that allows Ukrainian grain to be exported through the Black Sea.
The message was conveyed by the High Representative for Foreign Policy of the EU, Josep Borrell, to the Indian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, in a meeting that both held in Brussels, on the margins of the first Trade and Technology Council held between the EU and India.
The head of European diplomacy took advantage of the meeting to recognize India’s work as president of the G20 and its “spirit of global interconnection” to address issues of interest to other countries that are not members of this forum.
He also wanted to make clear the “unwavering” commitment of the community bloc with Ukraine in the face of the Russian invasion, including efforts to guarantee a “comprehensive, just and lasting peace” and the consequences of the war for food security in the global context.
Another of the issues they addressed was the EU’s interest in holding the next bilateral summit throughout 2023.
The Trade and Technology Council is a coordination platform for the two parties to address key trade, technology and security issues, with annual meetings at the ministerial level.
