“More nuclear weapons and fewer arms controls make the world more dangerous.” NATO and the European Union have accused this Tuesday the Russian president, Vladimir Putinto dismantle the global security architecture with his announcement that he is suspending his participation in the New START nuclear disarmament treaty that he signed with the United States.
“I regret Russia’s decision to suspend its participation in the New START treaty. In recent years, Russia has violated or withdrawn from key arms control agreements. With today’s decision on New START, the entire gun control architecture has been dismantled“, said the secretary general of the Atlantic Alliance, Jens Stoltenberg, who calls on Moscow to reconsider its decision.
“Russia’s announcement that it is suspending the START treaty is further proof that what Russia is doing is demolish the security system that was built after the end of the Cold War“, maintains for his part the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell. The most urgent thing now is to give military aid to Ukraine so that it wins the war, but “we have to start thinking about what the future security system will be”, has added.
