The EU agrees to sanctions against those responsible for the repression of protests in Iran

BRUSSELS, Oct. 12 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Twenty-seven have agreed on Wednesday the first sanctions against those responsible for the repression of the demonstrations in Iran after the death of a woman detained for wearing the veil incorrectly, European sources have informed Europa Press.

The decision to freeze assets in the EU and veto the entry to community soil of “a dozen people” has been agreed at the level of ambassadors of the 27 at a meeting in Brussels but will be formalized next Monday by the foreign ministers which will meet in Luxembourg.

This is the first coercive measures of the EU after the death in custody of Mahsa Amini, the 22-year-old woman arrested for allegedly wearing the veil incorrectly, after Spain, Germany, France, Italy, Denmark and the Czech Republic requested a week take this step.
