The employed population increases by 1.6 million in May: Inegi

The sectors with the greatest increase in their employed population were: constructionwith 475,000 people; manufacturing industrywith 461,000; restaurants and accommodation serviceswith 451,000, and social serviceswith 222,000.

Of the employed people, 68.9% worked as subordinate and paid workers when occupying a job position or position, an annual growth of 1.3 million.

While 22% worked independently or on their own without hiring staff.

Services accounted for 43.5% of the employed population; trade, 19.7%; manufacturing, 16.8%; agricultural activities, 10.4%; construction, 8.2%; and other economic activities, including mining, electricity, water and gas supply, 0.7%.

Informality decreases

In the fifth month of the year, the population employed in informal employment was 32.6 million people and the informal employment rate was 54.4%, decreasing 0.7 percentage points compared to the same month in 2023.

As regards the unemployed economically active population, in May it registered a decrease of 0.3 percentage points compared to the same month in 2023.

The total was 1.6 million unemployed people, which means an annual reduction of 149,000.

The unemployment rate for men was 2.7%, and for women it was 2.5%.
