The Dutch Government guarantees the security of the Jewish community after Thursday’s incidents

The Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Dick Schoof, has conveyed to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Israel, Gideon Saar, that the Jewish community can feel safe after the riots that occurred on Thursday in Amsterdam, between pro-Palestinian protesters and fans of the team. “The Dutch government is doing everything it can to ensure that the Jewish community in our country feels safe,” Schoof said in conversation with Saar, according to an official Dutch statement.

Saar traveled to the Netherlands on Friday, where he conveyed to Schoof his “great concern and horror” about the “growing anti-Semitism,” the Dutch president explained in a message published in X.

Schoof himself spoke to members of the Jewish community in Amsterdam on Friday after returning from Budapest, where an EU summit was being held.

Meanwhile, this Saturday the Dutch authorities reported that four of the 62 arrested for the riots remain in custody. Two of them are minors. The four will appear before a judge at the beginning of next week, as reported by the Prosecutor’s Office in a statement.

Of the total of 62 arrested, 40 were detained for disturbing public order, the majority released on bail. Ten others are accused of insults, vandalism or possession of fireworks and are being investigated.

Police are examining the recordings to try to identify other suspects and are taking statements from witnesses. It also investigates whether the violence was organized.

At the moment it is not known if among those detained there are Maccabi Tel Aviv fans or Israeli citizens, whose number is estimated at around 3,000. During Friday, many of these Israeli fans returned to their country by plane, as reported by the Israeli Embassy. There were also flights on Saturday and there are also scheduled for Sunday.

On the other hand, this Saturday it was reported that two stickers with the slogan “Free Palestine” with knives were found on the streets of central Amsterdam.

The Police are aware of this information and the City Council has denounced this type of “very dirty” actions that “could hurt people” and has recommended not touching the stickers and reporting their location if any more appear. It has also alerted cleaning service workers.
