The African Union applauds the control of the situation announced by the Congolese security forces

The Army of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) announced this Sunday the death of four attackers suspected of having tried to carry out a coup d’état in the country, including the alleged ringleader of the coup, identified as Christian Malanga, a member of the Congolese diaspora and settled in the United States.
The spokesman for the DRC Armed Forces, General Sylvain Ekenge, has reported the situation, indicating that around 50 individuals attacked the home of the Prime Minister, Judith Suminwa Tuluka, the Minister of Defense, Jean Pierre Bemba and the Deputy Prime Minister. The incidents, according to Kamerhe’s spokesman, Michel Moto, began around 4:30 a.m. on Sunday, when a group of armed men in military uniforms launched an attack on his residence in the country’s capital, Kinshasa. A few hours later, the same group of assailants staged a raid on the Presidential Palace, where they reportedly raised the flag of Zaire and declared their intention to “change things about the management of the republic”, before being evicted.
Ekenge described what happened as a failed coup d’état that was already dismantled. “Both foreigners and Congolese” participated in the attempt and “all of them have been incapacitated.” “We guarantee that the situation is under control and ask the inhabitants of Kinshasa to freely go about their business,” he added.
The president of the African Union commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, has “strongly” condemned this attempted coup d’état and has applauded the control of the situation announced by the country’s security forces.”
“He is delighted that all those responsible for the republican institutions are safe and sound. He takes this opportunity to condemn any use of force to change the constitutional order in any African State,” reads a statement.
