The Dian carried out more than 1,000 customs control operations in the country’s cities

The National Tax and Customs Directorate (Dian) was part of 1,075 customs control operations in 23 cities in the countryactions in which merchandise worth $4.43 billion were seized.

The operations were carried out in Cali (190), Bucaramanga (162), Manizales (154), Bogota (118), Yopal (72), Medellin (72), Sogamous (54), Villavicencio (38), Pamplona (33), Ibagué (25), Barranquilla (24), Tumaco (23), Pereira (23), Cucuta (19), Neiva (19), Ipiales (12), Armenia (11), Saint Martha (9), Cartagena (8), Girardot (5), Puerto Asís (2), Puerto Inirida (1) and Tunja (1).

The customs control actions carried out at the end of October are the result of the objectives set in the anti-smuggling roundtables that we have developed both at the central and regional level with the participation of control entities and unions; We will continue to move forward in this fight against smuggling to protect the national industry and contribute to the improvement of the country’s economy.“, he stated Álvaro Sánchez, director of Inspection Management of the Dian.

During the month of October 2024, the Dian made 1,566 seizures worth $42,511 million in the national customs territory. The cities with the best results were:

– Bogota: 37 arrests worth $19,237 million (45.25% of the national total).

– Cali: 63 arrests worth $5,743 million (13.51% of the national total).

– Medellin: 83 arrests worth $2,541 million (5.98% of the national total).

– Barranquilla: 122 arrests worth $2,128 million (5.01% of the national total).

– Cartagena: 40 arrests worth $2,005 million (4.71% of the national total).

In terms of economic sectors, the most representative merchandise seized were:

– Textile materials: 327 arrests worth $24,625 million.

– Machines, devices and electrical material: 186 arrests worth $4,007 million.

– Plastics and their manufactures: 199 arrests worth $2,159 million.

– Stone manufactures, setable plaster: 157 arrests worth $1.72 billion.

– Footwear, gaiters and similar articles: 261 arrests worth $1,636 million.

So far in 2024, the customs authority has made 23,728 seizures for an approximate value of $489,251 million.

These operations, led by Dian, had the collaboration of the Colombian Agricultural Institute (ICA), the National Institute for Food and Drug Surveillance (Invima), the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce, the National Police, the National Federation of Departments, the departmental Treasury Secretariats, the National Association of Industrialists (Andi ), the Colombian Federation of Industries.
