The National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) approved the pre-feasibility of the private initiative El Dorado Max (EDMax), which is aimed at expansion of El Dorado airport, of Bogotá, and its surroundings.

“From the ANI we celebrate this important step that we have taken in order to make El Dorado Max a reality, an initiative that aims to make this terminal a benchmark for the region“said William Camargo Triana, president of the entity.
Camargo recalled that El Dortado is the third busiest airport in passenger traffic and it is the first in cargo mobilization of Latin America and “This makes us increase our expectations and want to consolidate ourselves as a highly competitive air terminal with the highest standards of comfort.“.

“We want to increase the capacities of El Dorado in order to positively impact the more than 100,000 passengers who use its facilities daily“, Held.
And what does the EDMax project contemplate? We tell you:
Among the changes that are sought to be made in El Dorado are: increase 46 aircraft parking spaces, reaching 134 in total; expand the passenger terminal; demolish the old air bridge to build a new terminal and extend the taxiways on the north runway.
The ultimate goal is to have a air terminal four times larger than the current one, achieving a 51% expansion in the passenger area (service improvements in migration areas, security filters and passenger processing areas) and a 25% expansion in the cargo terminal (strengthening its current capacity and optimizing the logistics of cargo carried on passenger planes).
“The construction of the taxiway parallel to Lima street is also sought, completing the circuit for the transit of aircraft between the north and south runways, as well as the extension of the north runway to the west in a length of 845 meters. , plus the extension of the Alfa and Bravo taxiways to the west, which enable the connection with the extension of the proposed runway“, explained the ANI.

Another goal of the project is relocate the system for the storage of aeronautical fuel to a new location, with the construction of new pipelines for the direct supply of fuel to all the new parking positions on the platform.
Regarding the areas surrounding the airport, there are three items in which work is sought:
– Construction of new lanes on Avenida 26 in both directions to connect TransMilenio to the airport.
– Develop the extension of Avenida Mutis (Calle 63) towards the west until the intersection with the Funza – Cota road.
– A Fashion Exchange Centerl at the airport that will allow connecting, in addition to TransMilenio, the Regiotram de Occidente, facilitating the arrival and departure of passengers.
The next step, after pre-feasibility, will be the development of studies and designs at the feasibility level and the award of the project, which will be at the end of 2025.
(See: This is how the system will work to land in bad weather in El Dorado).
According to the authorities, it is expected to reach the figure of 35 million people mobilized at the airport during 2022.
