The delegates chosen to attend the upcoming 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) are broadly representative, the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee said.

A total of 2,296 delegates have been chosen to attend the congress, which is proposed to convene on October 16 in Beijing.

Up to 771 delegates, 33.6% of the total, come from the bases, including 192 workers, 85 farmers and 266 professionals and technicians, according to the statement issued on the election of delegates to the congress.

The average age of the delegates is 52.2 years, and about 59.7% of them are under 55 years of age. About 95.4 percent of them have a high school diploma or higher, while more than half of the delegates have a master’s degree.

The department said that 2,224 delegates, or 96.9 percent of the total, joined the CPC after the reform and opening up started in 1978.

Strict procedures were observed throughout the electoral process, from candidate nomination and selection to organization review and election, and all CCP grassroots organizations were mobilized, with an average turnout rate of 99.5 percent Of the members.
