MADRID 28 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Defense and Foreign Ministers of South Korea and the United States will meet this Thursday in Washington as part of their 2+2 ministerial meetings, all amid growing tensions over the alleged deployment of North Korean troops in Russia.

The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, and the head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin, will host the sixth meeting with their South Korean counterparts (the head of South Korean diplomacy, Cho Tae Yul, and the head of Defense, Kim Yong Hyun) which will take place on October 31.

According to a statement from Blinkne’s office, the meeting will build on commitments made during South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol’s official visit to the United States in April 2023 and the “historic” trilateral leaders’ summit in August. of the same year.

“Blinken and Austin look forward to strengthening cooperation across the full range of global and regional issues and deepening the US-ROK alliance with their counterparts,” the letter reads.

In recent days, the National Security advisors of the United States, Japan and South Korea expressed their “deep concern” about the increasingly close relations between Moscow and Pyongyang, calling for an end to them amid information that points to that North Korea would be preparing troops to intervene in the war in Ukraine on the side of the Russian Army.
