The Pakistani Security Forces have updated the death toll to at least 12, several of them policemen, after an explosion at a Kabal police station, in the Swat region, in the Pakistani province of Jíber Pajtunjua (northwest).
The explosion, which has also left 57 injured, three of them civilians, was initially classified as a terrorist attack, but police spokesman Nasir Mehmood Satti has confirmed to the newspaper ‘Dawn’ that the investigations have ruled out a terrorist motive. .
The main hypothesis of the investigators would be that the deflagration occurred as a result of an “oversight” that took place in a weapons storage place inside the old office of the Anti-Terrorism Department, in the vicinity of the police station.
The roof of the police station has fallen and would have trapped at least 20 agents who were in the offices, where the Emergency Services have worked all night. Several small secondary explosions would also have occurred due to the large amount of ammunition stored at the accident site.
The Pakistani Interior Minister, Rana Sanaulá, condemned the explosion and described it as a “suicide attack”, affirming his intention to “fight against terrorism”, shortly after clarifying that the investigation was still ongoing and that the reason for the attack was not yet known. incident.
