The death toll from the floods in Afghanistan rises to about 25

May 30. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Afghan authorities have raised to about 25 the death toll from the floods registered during the last ten days due to torrential rains, especially in the center and north of the country, which have also left more than a dozen injured.

The spokesman for the Afghan Ministry of Natural Disaster Management, Shafiulá Rahimi, has specified in his latest report that there were 24 deaths and thirteen injuries registered in thirteen of the provinces of the Central Asian country, as reported by the Afghan television channel Ariana.

It has also highlighted that more than 120 homes have been damaged or completely destroyed by the rains, while more than 3,000 acres of agricultural land have been “destroyed.”

Rahimi has stressed that the Afghan authorities are working with United Nations agencies and non-governmental organizations to distribute food, humanitarian aid and cash to about 15,000 families affected by the rains.

The UN recently warned that decades of conflict, coupled with environmental conditions and a lack of investment, have contributed to increasing the vulnerability of Afghans, while stressing that Afghanistan is suffering the most serious humanitarian crisis in the world.
