The death toll from the collapse of a 13-story building in Alexandria, Egypt increases to ten

The death toll from the collapse of a 13-story building in Alexandria (Egypt) rises to four on Monday

June 28 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Egyptian authorities have recovered this Wednesday a new lifeless body from the rubble of a thirteen-story building located in the city of Alexandria that collapsed on Monday, bringing the balance after this event to ten dead and four injured.

However, the number of deaths may increase, as the search for the missing persons continues, reports the newspaper ‘Al Ahram’.

The Prosecutor’s Office had ordered the arrest of the owner of the collapsed building and a contractor linked to the building accused of carrying out unauthorized construction on the top floor of the building, which should have been demolished due to the risk of collapse. Those arrested are charged with charges of manslaughter, wrongful injury and construction without a permit.

“The top floor of the building had already received a demolition order and the entire property had been investigated by a committee responsible for inspecting buildings at risk of collapse,” Alexandria Governor Mohamed el Sharif said.
