The death toll from a landslide due to heavy rains in Indonesia rises to 50

March 15 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Indonesian authorities have reported this Monday that the death toll from a landslide registered on March 6 in the province of Riau Islands, in the northwest of the country, has risen to 50.

Previous information pointed to 46 deaths due to a landslide that has buried practically the entirety of a village in the Serasan district, as indicated by the Indonesian National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB).

Likewise, the authorities had indicated that at least nine people were still missing as a result of the heavy rains recorded over the last week in the country.

Now, the BNPB has detailed that there are 50 fatalities in total, although only 49 have been identified. In addition, there are still four people unaccounted for, so the search and rescue efforts continue.
