The death of a sergeant at a Missouri military base is being investigated as a possible homicide

( Spanish) – United States military and civilian authorities opened an investigation into the death of Sergeant Sarah Roque at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, the commander of the military base, Major General Christopher Beck, and Special Agent John McCabe, of the Division, reported this Thursday. Army Criminal Investigation Department.

Roque’s death is being investigated as a possible homicide in which a person of interest has so far been identified, Beck and McCabe said in a press conference.

At that time, the person of interest was not in custody. Later, the Army’s Criminal Investigation Division told that she had already been detained.

Beck and McCabe declined to provide further details about the person of interest — such as their gender or whether they are part of the Fort Leonard Wood staff — arguing that this could affect the ongoing investigation, in which the FBI is also involved.

Roque was reported missing on the morning of Monday, October 21, after she did not show up for her unit’s morning training.

Base authorities and civilian authorities then began a search operation, which ended at night when the sergeant’s body was found in a garbage container adjacent to one of the buildings at Fort Leonard Wood.

Both Beck and McCabe declined to detail the conditions in which the body was found or the possible cause of death.

Beck said base authorities have been in contact with Roque’s family, to whom they expressed their condolences. He described Roque as a woman “proud to serve her country” and called her death a “tragic loss” for the people of Fort Leonard Wood.

McCabe asked that those who may have information about the case contact authorities. “We trust that those responsible for the death of Sergeant Roque will be brought to justice,” he said.
