The death of a child calls into question China's strict protocols against COVID-19

Nov. 3 (EUROPA PRESS –

Chinese authorities have promised to improve emergency medical protocols following the death of a sick three-year-old boy who took hours to be treated due to the rectitude of the methods applied to prevent possible coronavirus infections.

The events occurred on Monday, when the minor’s father found him unconscious. According to the government of the city of Lanzhou, located in the center of the country, the officials asked the father to put on a mask when he called for help and the emergency services disinfected an ambulance before traveling to the place of the warning.

The father ended up going to the hospital on his own, by taxi, and his son died a few hours later, according to the official account. The issue has been one of the most commented this Thursday on the Weibo social network, where videos of the security forces repressing protests originating from this case have also been broadcast, according to the Bloomberg agency.

The local government has admitted in a WeChat message that officials acted in a “rigid and bureaucratic” manner instead of resolving the crisis as soon as possible. “We will always put people and life first in our work from now on,” she has promised.

Much of the city, where 4.4 million people live, has been confined for several weeks, the result of a “zero cases” policy against COVID-19 that Beijing shows no signs of reversing. The health authorities have reported this Thursday of 51 additional infections.
