Forbes magazine published this week the list of the 13 celebrities who generate the most money in the world after death.
In the group are athletes, artists and entertainers whose income – despite being in the cemetery – reached the figure of US $ 1,600 million this 2022.
According to the publication, which began in 2001 to investigate the finances of dead celebrities, this year’s earnings increased by 72% compared to 2021, which is a record.
To make the list, the magazine indicated that it took into account sales taxes, transfers and license agreements. They also did interviews with industry experts.
Leading the group is the famous writer JRR Tolkien, who is the author of the “Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” sagas. The former Oxford professor passed away in 1973, but the intellectual property rights to films, video games and other products related to his fantasy world continue to make money.
Tolkien’s legacy, according to Forbes, generated profits of $500 million.
The writer is followed by basketball star Kobe Bryant, after the sale of his stake in the BodyArmor sports drink company to Coca-Cola generated US$400 million.
Bryant died in January 2020 in the crash of the helicopter he was traveling in against some mountains in Santa Monica, California.
While the third place is for the singer David Bowie, who accumulates earnings of US $ 250 million.
On the list, which does not include any women, the only Latino is Mexican music star Juan Gabriel.
Here is the complete list of celebrities and the data of the earnings generated by their names in 2022:
