The current vision of the metaverse does not convince the CEO of Microsoft Gaming

Oct. 27 (Portaltic/EP) –

The metaverse does not convince at the moment the person in charge of Xbox and executive director of Microsoft Gaming, Phil Spencer, who is not attracted to the idea that it resembles “a meeting room, despite the fact that Microsoft is one of Meta’s partners to bring collaborative work to this virtual environment.

Spencer has shared his opinion on what is currently understood by the metaverse, during The Wall Street Journal’s annual Tech Live conference. “Today I’d say it’s a poorly made game“, he stated.

Briefly, and based on his experience over the years in the video game sector, he has indicated that they have allowed “bringing people together in three-dimensional spaces to save the world from an alien invasion or to conquer a castle.”

However, he is not convinced by what he has seen so far in the metaverse. “Build a metaverse that looks like a meeting room It’s not what I expect to spend my time,” he said.

Microsoft, the company to which Xbox belongs, announced its collaboration with Meta during the last Connect event of the latter. The Quest Pro viewer, focused on the professional field, will allow access to the Microsoft 365 Apps Y games with X Cloud Gaming (Beta), and will bring Meta avatars to Teams, as announced in mid-October.
