The Crown Prince of Kuwait announces the dissolution of Parliament and calls for elections

June 22 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The crown prince of Kuwait, Mishal al Ahmad al Jaber al Sabá, announced on Wednesday the dissolution of Parliament and has called for elections to vote for the members of the next chamber.

In a message to the nation, he clarified that it has been the emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Nauf al Ahmed al Sabá, who has entrusted him with this task and has indicated that, in accordance with the country’s Constitution, the measure has been taken in “national interest”.

“I ask the population to elect a new chamber in the coming months that can face the responsibility of maintaining state stability,” he said, according to the KUNA news agency.

Thus, he stressed that it is a “great responsibility” for the country’s population and recalled that the Magna Carta is “untouchable” since it is based on the “legitimacy of the pact between the leaders and the people to guarantee security and prosperity” of the nation.

“Faced with this challenging world, we must be cautious. We have not yet recovered from the repercussions of the coronavirus and we are facing political differences caused by personal interests, which is detrimental to Kuwait and its people,” he said.

In addition, he has highlighted that the intention is “to reinforce popular participation”, he has guaranteed that “there will be no interference once the people have expressed their preferences” and has asked the Government to “cooperate”.
