In addition to the earthquakes reported in the Nevado del Ruiz volcano and the ash fall, the Colombian Geological Service reported thermal anomalies, after the crater reached a temperature of 700 °C.
(Nevado del Ruiz volcano: higher level of activity detected in the area).
According to reports, the thermal anomalies at the bottom of the crater are “greater than those presented in previous months”.
“There is a probability that it will explode in days or weeks. Nobody can say when. Another option is that it calms down and does not erupt. We are acting almost as if it were going to erupt,” said Luis Fernando Velasco, director in charge of the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD).
Given this situation, the level of activity will continue in orange.
