In recent years, and thanks to the effects that the pandemic had on work dynamics, more and more people are joining this trend. This is why countries have sought to innovate in their immigration policies, creating new routes and visa programs aimed at this type of workers.

In January 2022, the Brazilian government launched the VITEM XIV visa. This allows immigrants to apply for residency as a digital nomad for one year with the possibility of renewal.

With this measure, visitors can work for foreign employers while they remain in Brazilian territory, without any formal employment registered in the country. To do this, they must demonstrate their employment status by presenting a contract (employment or service provision), among other documents that describe the employment relationship with their employer.

In 2022, the Argentine Ministry of the Interior presented a new type of residence for teleworkers or remote workers who choose Argentina to travel and work.

The visa for digital nomads is valid for six months. They can be extended only once for another period. During their stay, people who apply for this residence will obtain discounts on transfers and transportation, as well as other benefits.
