The CNE and ALBA also rejected the sanctions imposed by the United States on Venezuela

( Spanish) – The Venezuelan government on Thursday rejected the restrictions announced by the United States government against 16 Venezuelan officials, calling them “unilateral, illegitimate and illegal coercive measures.” On Friday, new reactions came, this time from the CNE (controlled by Chavez) and ALBA, a block of countries allied to Caracas.

Venezuela’s National Electoral Council (CNE) condemned the sanctions announced by the United States and described them as an “infamous act of interference.”

“We demand that the United States Government not get involved in the internal affairs of the Venezuelan Electoral Power and we urge it to focus on the internal affairs of its country,” the CNE said in a statement.

In its letter, the CNE stressed that the measure “attempts to single out and intimidate a group of Venezuelan public servants,” including the head of the organization, Rosalba Gil Pacheco, and its secretary, Antonio José Meneses Rodríguez.

The member states of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) also rejected the imposition of sanctions against 16 Venezuelan officials on Friday.

“The Bolivarian Alliance demands respect for the sovereignty of the free peoples of our America and the Caribbean, while reaffirming its unrestricted support and solidarity with the people and government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela,” detailed the statement released by the Alliance.
