In one letter In an effort to dispel rumors and clarify the state of the company, Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger has explained the situation in its main divisions.
In addition to commenting on the announcement of the Collaboration with Amazon AWS for joint development of AI and Xeon 6 chips customized for the online shopping giant, Pat Gelsinger has revealed that Intel’s chipmaking division will be separated from its parent company and operated independently.
Intel Foundry will remain a subsidiary of Intelbut will have more independence when making decisions and ability to seek financing outside the parent company. In any case, Intel Foundry’s management team will remain the same and they will be answering directly to Pat Gelsinger, so it remains to be seen what the consequences of this change will be and whether they are enough to turn the company around.
One of the most direct changes will be the way Intel interacts with other companies. Although Intel recently opened up to making chips for third parties, it was still a division of Intel, and many potential customers would be direct competitors.
