The Chinese government and the WHO discuss the epidemiological situation at a meeting

Dec. 30 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Representatives of the Government of China and the World Health Organization (WHO) have held a telematic meeting this Friday in which they have examined the current epidemiological situation in the Asian giant, which has seen how the cases of COVID-19 have multiplied after the removal of most of the restrictions.

The Chinese Ministry of Health has reported this meeting, in which both parties have discussed technical issues, such as treatments and vaccines, and also the need to work to end the pandemic as soon as possible, according to a brief statement from the Executive.

The President of China, Xi Jinping, referred for the first time this Friday to the lifting of restrictions, attributing the change in strategy in the fight against the pandemic to the need to “optimize” measures to protect the health of the population and at the same time minimize the collateral economic effects, reports the Bloomberg agency.

The president no longer uses the term “COVID zero” to refer to this strategy, despite the fact that for almost three years Beijing has defended this approach tooth and nail to justify the imposition of iron control measures, with confinements and indiscriminate tests.
