The Administration for Cyberspace of China has reported this Sunday that during the first quarter of 2023, sanctions have been imposed on Internet companies such as Baidu, Sina Weibo, Douyu or Douban for the dissemination of harmful content such as pornography, superstitions, prostitution or games. of chance.
Those responsible for these platforms will have to report this type of problem to the local branches of the Administration for Cyberspace of China and “rectify” it within a certain period of time, according to the official Chinese newspaper ‘Global Times’.
The agency asks the platforms to act against the accounts that disseminate this type of information and warns that users who engage in these practices will be subject to administrative sanctions.
In the first quarter of the year, the Administration has contacted 2,203 platforms, has suspended or modified the conditions of 48 platforms and 55 applications and subprograms have been eliminated. In addition, the license has been withdrawn or 4,208 illegal web pages have been closed.
In the second quarter, the agency will focus on the work of provincial and prefectural affiliates to improve inspections and “safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Internet users in China.”
