The Burkina Faso Army has announced the death of more than 20 suspected terrorists in an offensive carried out in the town of Iolonioro, located in the province of Bougouriba (south), in the context of the upsurge in insecurity due to jihadist attacks in the African country.

Thus, he has spoken in a statement of “an offensive action” launched on June 27 to “arrest individuals who were transporting explosives”, while indicating that during it “three terrorist bases” were discovered.

“The units went into combat, neutralizing at least 22 terrorists,” he said, before highlighting that “a significant amount of materials, including weapons, ammunition, drugs and pharmaceutical products were recovered or destroyed.”

On the other hand, unidentified armed persons carried out an attack on Tuesday morning against a checkpoint in Koumbia and a police station in Béreba, with no information on victims at the moment, as reported by the Burkina Faso portal. Infowakat news.


Burkina Faso, led by a military junta since the aforementioned coup, has generally experienced a significant increase in insecurity since 2015, which has caused a wave of internally displaced persons and refugees to other countries in the region.

The attacks, the work of both the affiliate of Al Qaeda and that of the Islamic State in the region, have also contributed to increasing inter-community violence and have caused self-defense groups to flourish, to which the Burkinabe government has added ‘volunteers ‘ to help in the fight against terrorism.
