The local coordinator of Ciudadanos in Toledo city, Miguel Payán, announced his resignation on Tuesday and that of the rest of the members of the Board due to the “lack of transparency” in the designation of a candidate for Mayor of Toledo, “behind the backs of party members”.

It has been through a statement. In a “unanimous” way, the Board of Directors regrets “the ways” in which this designation has taken place, of which they affirm that they have found out “through the press”. It was this morning when the regional leader of Ciudadanos announced at a press conference that Esteban Paños, a councilor in the Toledo City Council, would repeat as head of the municipal list in the 2023 elections, as reported by Toledodiario.es. The ad coincides with another. The one carried out yesterday afternoon by Inés Arrimadas, the national leader of the party that called primaries to renew the leadership of the party without confirming that she will attend to renew the leadership.

“It is especially bloody at a time when the party is in a process of refounding and since the participation of the affiliates has been promulgated and in which we had our illusions on,” Payán reported in a statement.

“Faced with this procedure, dark and lacking in internal democracy, in which an absolute lack of respect is shown for the local Association and for our militants, the Board of Directors has decided to present its irrevocable resignation,” concludes Payán.

‘Here Now’, a new option in Talavera and in Toledo?

It is not the first time that the party’s Board of Directors has resigned en bloc in a municipality in the province. It already happened in Talavera de la Reina last January because its members did not agree with the lines and guidelines that the party was taking in the region led by Carmen Picazo, according to Toledodiario.es.

At that time, the former coordinator of the Board of Directors of the orange party in Talavera, Beatriz Illescas, stated that they did not agree with the course of the party due to the lack of organization. Barely a month ago it became known that Illescas, who then announced that she was already working together with the people who resigned to start another project, has registered a new political formation that bears the name of ‘Here Now’ and is based in Toledo.
