The Australian Prime Minister promises reforms and renewal in his Government after COVID-19

Aug. 29 () –

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese promised this Sunday a shift to an era of “reform and renewal” for his government, when the recovery period from COVID-19 ends.

“Over the next decade, we will need more educators, more carers and more nurses in every part of our system. We will not do it with broken institutions and exhausted staff,” he told the National Press Club in Canberra, in a speech marking the 100 days since taking office, picked up by ABC Australia.

In this sense, Albanese has indicated that it is necessary “to aim beyond the simple recovery”, because it is not possible “to return to business as usual when we know that it was not good enough”. “We need a reform to achieve renewal,” she assured.

Thus, he asserted that it would be necessary to “promote the change we need here and now, but always with a view to how we can shape the future”.

Since winning the elections in May, the Albanese Executive has focused on fulfilling its campaign promises, including greater action on climate change, boosting Australia’s diplomatic presence and increasing workers’ wages.

Albanese is bringing together Australian political, business and union leaders for a jobs and skills summit in Canberra from Thursday that he hopes will produce “immediate action”.

“Of course, none of us imagines that a two-day summit will completely fix wages and job security, or any of the other pressing economic challenges facing the country,” Albanese explained.
