Aug. 16 () –
Former Prime Minister Scott Morrison responded this Tuesday that he took the “necessary” measures to face “extraordinary times”, in the framework of the COVID-19 pandemic, after the current Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, qualified of “unacceptable” that Morrison had secretly assumed functions of several ministries.
Morrison has apologized — through a post on his Facebook account — for not having revealed this information, before stating that he considered such measures “necessary” due to the pandemic.
“For any offense to my colleagues, I apologize. I led an outstanding team that did an excellent job and gave me great service and loyalty as ministers,” he said.
Thus, Morrison has pointed out that “the devastating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the recession associated with it demanded an unprecedented political response on the part” of the Government. “These were extraordinary times and they required extraordinary measures to respond. Our Government’s overarching goal was to save lives and livelihoods, and we succeeded,” she added.
Albanese said on Monday that he would investigate “unacceptable” and “rare” reports that his predecessor, Conservative Scott Morrison, secretly took over various ministry roles during the last two years of his term.
“This is the kind of ‘tiny’ activity that we would ridicule if it were in a non-democratic country. The Australian people deserve better than this disregard for democratic processes and our system of government,” Albanese told reporters, the network reports. SBS.
The ministries for which Morrison was secretly appointed were five: Health, since March 14, 2020; Finance, since March 30 of the same year; the Interior and the Treasury, from May 6, 2021; and that of Industry and Science, from April 15, 2021.
