The Malian Army said this Thursday that it had “neutralized” six suspected terrorists after “repelling” a new attack against one of its positions in the town of Wabaria, located in the Gao region (north), without specifying the group targeted. the suspects would belong.

Thus, he detailed in a statement published on his account on the social network Facebook that the attack was carried out on Wednesday by “terrorists aboard motorcycles”, before stating that the fighting resulted in an injured soldier.

In this sense, he pointed out that “the vigorous response” of the Malian troops caused the assailants to “flight”, while applauding the “professionalism” and “effectiveness” of the military in confronting the attack.

“The General Staff of the Malian Army reaffirms the commitment of the Armed Forces when it comes to protecting people and their property throughout the national territory,” he concluded, without for now there being any claim of responsibility for the attack.

The African country is currently led by a military junta established after the coups d’état perpetrated in August 2020 and May 2021, both headed by Assimi Goita, current transitional president, who has led a rapprochement with Russia while distanced from both France and Western governments, including its departure — along with Burkina Faso and Niger — from the ranks of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
