The Burkina Faso authorities announced on Wednesday the death of “numerous terrorists” in a bombardment carried out in response to an attack on a police base in the city of Tougan, located in the north of the African country.
“In response to an attack this morning against a Burkina Faso National Police base in Tougan, elements of the Burkinabe Air Force present in the area intercepted the enemy and neutralized it during its withdrawal,” the Army said in a statement. statement published on his official account on the social network Facebook.
Likewise, he stressed that the bombardments have resulted in the destruction of at least four vehicles used by the attackers, before adding that “operations continue in the area.” At the moment, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack in Tougan, with no data on casualties in the ranks of government forces.
Burkina Faso has seen a sharp increase in jihadist attacks in recent years, the work of both al Qaeda and Islamic State affiliates in the region. Abuses by the security forces against the population have helped these groups in their recruitment efforts.
