The Argentine consulate in New York celebrates the Day of the Fatherland

For yet another year, the Argentine community in New York met on Thursday at the consulate of their country to celebrate, as every 25th of this month, the Day of the Homeland that commemorates the May Revolution, which on this occasion celebrates its 213 anniversary.

The event was attended by nationals residing in the tri-state area of ​​New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, to enjoy typical dances, such as tango; folklore and traditional foods.

“It is a day of recognition for the Argentine community, in addition to the 200 years of bilateral relations and together with the Argentine ambassador to the United States, Jorge Argüello, Mayor Eric Adams gave us the proclamation of May 24 as the day of the ‘Legacy Argentine,'” he commented to the voice of america the Consul General of Argentina in New York, Santiago Villalba. “What he highlighted is the reason for the proclamation, which is for the contribution of Argentine Americans to development in all counties.”

Consul Villalba stressed that Argentina is a large community in the Big Apple since there are more than 25,000 registered residents who have changed their address here, but it is estimated that some 40,000 reside in the northeast.

On the occasion of the event, 200 years of commercial relations between the United States and Argentina were celebrated. At the reception was Mayor Eric Adams who pointed out that the outstanding Argentine community in the Queens area is a group of great effort and collaborates in society with its people and small businesses. On the occasion of May Revolution Day, the Argentine flag was raised in the Wall Street district, in front of the famous sculpture of wall street bull.

The mayor received a very special gift from the Argentine consulate, a ball signed by the outstanding World Cup-winning soccer player, Leonel Messi. For their part, the attendees were able to take a very special gift: yerba mate, and a mate to be able to get to know and savor the Argentine national drink, an infusion that is taken in a mate with hot water and yuyos of different flavors.
