Monsignor John Moolachira, Archbishop of Guwahati, describes a dramatic panorama: “The situation is terrible. Several parishes, schools and meeting places are under water. The losses are enormous, and the diocese, all the congregations and the parishes have committed to help the victims”. In case of need, Mons. Moolachira asks that Catholic facilities house the evacuees.

By operating jointly in its social work, the Archdiocese of Guwahati has brought help and comfort to many families in shelters in Nagaon and Morigaon districts. The assistance does not take into account religious affiliations or tribal, caste, or race issues. So far, 2,253 families have received support through the distribution of dry food rations and personal hygiene items.
