The Arab League foreign ministers meeting this Sunday in Cairo have agreed to readmit Syria to the organization, according to sources quoted by several Arab media.
“The decision to readmit Syria has been taken without objections from any of the 22 member countries,” sources quoted by the Egyptian state newspaper ‘Al Ahram’ have explained.
Senior diplomatic officials have also confirmed to the Saudi channel Al Arabiya that the reincorporation of Syria has been approved after twelve years of suspension.
The government of the Syrian president, Bashar al Assad, was expelled in 2011 after the repression of the protests and the outbreak of the civil war, in which various Arab powers supported the revolting rebels.
