The App Store will raise prices next month. It’s not Apple’s fault (at least not directly)

The app store It is one of Apple’s great sources of income. Inextricably linked to your iPhone, iPad, or Mac, this platform is (almost) the only official way to install new apps and games on those devices, and users depend on it. Now all of them will have to pay more for those apps and games, because the prices will go up soon.

Price hike on the App Store. Manzana has announced an imminent price increase for the App Store in various countries, including Spain. The measure will affect both applications and games as well as purchases within those types of software. The price increase will become effective in October.

Uploads around the world. The company indicated it in a note to the developers, and it revealed that the change will apply to Chile, Egypt, Japan, Malaysia, Pakistan, Poland, South Korea, Sweden, Vietnam, and all countries that use the euro as currency. That, of course, means that Spain is included in the rise along with other countries such as Italy, Portugal, Germany or France.

Apple does not give reasons. In that announcement, no reasons are given for these “changes” in prices, and the only thing that the company indicates is that developers will be able to change the price of their applications and purchases within applications (including auto-renewable subscriptions) thanks to the App Store Connect tool. “If you offer subscriptions, you can choose to keep the prices for existing subscribers,” they conclude.

The fault lies (largely) with the dollar. Apple doesn’t shake its pulse when it comes to raising prices —it has done so mercilessly with the new iPhone—, but as 9to5Mac indicates, everything seems to indicate that the change is due to the strength of the dollar against other currencies. The euro is already worth more or less the same as the dollar, and this has made both Apple and other manufacturers raise prices of its products without changing them or changing them only slightly.

how much things go up. In the euro zone, in-app purchases at 0.99 euros will now cost 1.19, and an application or game that costs 9.99 euros will cost 11.99 euros from October. The developer can maintain the subscription prices as we have mentioned, and the measure will take effect on October 5.
