Donald Trump will once again take charge of the White House. The Republican became the winner of the elections in the United States after obtaining 277 votes in the Electoral College, thus winning the presidency for the second time.

The Republican also won the popular vote (more than 71 million votes compared to Harris’ 66, according to data from the preliminary scrutiny), something that the Republicans had not achieved in 20 years since George W. Bush’s victory in the 2004 elections.

After the tycoon’s triumph, several world leaders have spoken out about the result of the electoral contest. Among them, President Gustavo Petro.

Through his X account, the Colombian president congratulated Trump on his victory and pointed out that the Americans’ choice must be respected. “The American people have spoken and are respected. Congratulations to Trump on his victory,” stood out.

The head of state emphasized the need to maintain dialogue between nations. Especially considering key issues on the agenda such as climate change and migration.

Regarding this last point, which is one of the most controversial due to the position of the new president-elect, Petro pointed out that “The only way to seal the borders is with the prosperity of the people of the south and the end of the blockades.”

The president’s response refers to immigration policy that Donald Trump has been promoting in his speech. One in which he has assured that measures will be implemented to stop illegal traffic.

“This is the most wonderful country in the world by far. We are going to work hard to make this country the best it has ever been. We have had to wait. We are going to have to close the borders, let people into our country, because we want the people who are abroad to return, but they have to return legally,” the tycoon has remarked.
