Preparing cakes, French fries, fish or any other type of food without the need to add as much oil, compared to what is required to cook in a pan, is one of the benefits of the air fryer. Nevertheless, Cooking at very high temperatures with this appliance can be hazardous to people’s health.

According to the Organization of Consumers and Users, even if little oil is used, the risk of developing dangerous compounds such as acrylamide, a chemical used to produce paper, dyes, and plastics.
Keep in mind that this compound is present in carbohydrate-rich foods during high-temperature cooking methods.
Although air frying food instead of using a traditional deep fryer can help reduce its acrylamide content, this method is not guaranteed to eliminate the risk. In fact, a study published in the United States National Library of Medicine found that air frying reduced acrylamide by up to 90% compared to traditional frying.
According to the International Agency for Research on Cancer, acrylamide may have links to the development of various types of cancer such as the endometrium, ovary, pancreas, breast and esophagus. Also, the National Library of Medicine of the United States relates it to kidney cancer.
And while research shows that air fryers do reduce acrylamide, it’s important to note that they can form other harmful compounds during the cooking process in these appliances.
(See: Tips for safe use of the air fryer).
According to the US National Cancer Institute, “aldehydes, heterocyclic amines, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are other potentially hazardous chemicals that form with high-temperature cooking and may be associated with increased cancer risk“.
Foods that may contain acrylamide are chips, crackers, bread and cereals, as indicated by the Institute. For that reason, if you want to prepare any of these foods in your deep fryer, it is important that you do so at low temperatures.
In fact, if you are going to cook any of these foods in the air fryer, the best thing to do, according to the Massive Sustainability health portal, is that Please prepare them below 120 degrees Celsius with low humidity.

As for these appliances, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)) recognizes that while they bring benefits, certain safety standards must be met to protect public health.

When working with electromagnetic radiation, that is, waves of electrical and magnetic energy that move together through space, microwaves are associated with a great deal of risk. One of them, and perhaps the most widespread among buyers, is that, supposedly, they can cause cancer.
