The Adriana Law in Chile seeks to sanction gynecological-obstetric violence

First modification:

Little by little progress is being made in Chile to approve the so-called Adriana Law, which seeks to penalize negligence and gynecological-obstetric violence, a situation that pregnant women sometimes suffer from health authorities. It is named after the sad case of Adriana Palacios, a young woman who in 2017 lost her baby Trinidad due to medical negligence.

It is called Adriana’s Law and seeks to sanction the gynecological and obstetric violence that pregnant women can suffer.

This initiative, which has been under examination for several years, after being approved in the Chamber of Deputies, is now advancing in the Senate and the specialized commission has supported the idea of legislating in this regard.

This Law seeks to guarantee the rights of pregnant women, newborns and couples during childbirth, prepartum and postpartum.

Its name derives from the sad case of Adriana Palacios, a young pregnant woman who in 2017 suffered medical negligence and ill-treatment during her consultation at a health center in the coastal city of Iquique, in the Tarapacá region, in northern Chile. This negligence caused the death of her daughter Trinidad de ella, who was stillborn.
