The 27 approve 120 million to support the military mission of the African Union in Somalia

BRUSSELS, July 6. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Member States of the European Union have adopted this Wednesday an aid of 120 million additional euros for the military mission of the African Union in Somalia (AMISOM).

The item will finance the military component of the mission and will contribute primarily to troop assignments for deployed African soldiers, to enable the mission to effectively fulfill its mandate.

This amount is added to the 65 million agreed in 2021 within the framework of the European Peace Mechanism with which the European Union finances its security and defense policy with financial and material support to armies of third countries.

The EU is the largest direct contributor to AMISOM and has allocated nearly €2.3 billion since 2007. This is the second installment of the Mechanism with €600 million to boost peacekeeping operations in Africa.
