The 18th edition of the Malaysia International Halal Fair (MIHAS 2022) was intended to further stimulate cross-border trade. Organized by the Malaysian Foreign Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), under the patronage of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), MIHAS 2022 was designed with digital tools to make it easier for global buyers and exhibitors to market their products and Halal services.
This MATRADE flagship event was held at the Malaysian International Trade and Exhibition Center (MITEC) in Kuala Lumpur from September 7-10, 2022, with a simultaneous global digital presence. After a successful year, MATRADE won its first award from the World Trade Promotion Organizations (WTPO) in the category of “Best use of information technologies” for its initiative to organize the virtual edition of the 17th edition of the Malaysian International Halal Exhibition (MIHAS) in 2021.
Known as a source of contacts, MIHAS 2022 is breaking new ground beyond the traditional Halal segments. Malaysia’s Halal exports in 2021 were mainly driven by the Food & Beverage, Halal Ingredients, Cosmetics & Personal Care, Palm Oil Derivatives, Industrial Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals segments.
In conjunction with the 18th edition of MIHAS, MATRADE also organized the International Sourcing Program (INSP) which was launched at MATRADE’s headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, one day before the world’s largest Halal trade fair, MIHAS 2022. , open its doors on September 7, 2022.
Leveraging its 46 overseas offices, the physical INSP MIHAS conducted pre-arranged business meetings for over 200 international buyers and over 300 sellers including Malaysian exporters in person. INSP MIHAS, MATRADE’s flagship program, has already facilitated more than 1,500 pre-arranged B2B meetings during its physical and virtual event.

MATRADE’s mission to promote Malaysian exports has enabled many Argentine companies to open new frontiers in world markets. This year, MATRADE Buenos Aires has recruited some local importers to participate in the virtual INSP, to source canned vegetables and fruits, fresh and frozen fruits, and other food products and ingredients. MATRADE Buenos Aires has already coordinated virtual business meetings with Malaysian exporters for them and more will be organized until November 15.
“We hope that in the future there will be more Argentine buyers interested in participating in this program, either physically or virtually, as it will be the best platform for them to explore the Halal market worldwide. We see that there is potential for Argentine buyers in the Halal sector, especially when it comes to food and ingredients as well as derivatives of palm oil”, said the Commercial Attaché of MATRADE Santiago, Mrs. Amilatun Fazlina Zakaria.
There will be more trade events to be promoted by MATRADE Buenos Aires in the future and bilateral trade between Malaysia and Argentina will also be constantly promoted to ensure the prosperous growth of the economy.
