The 12th World Conference on Hindi will be celebrated in Nadi, Fiji, co-hosted by India in collaboration with the Government of Fiji.
Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar led the Indian delegation consisting of Minister of State for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs, Shri V. Muraleedharan; the Minister of State for Home Affairs, Shri Ajay Kumar Mishra; Members of Parliament and senior officials.
The Government of Fiji was represented at the highest level at the Conference, which was attended by the President of Fiji, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere; the Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka; the Minister of Education, Aseri Radrodro and the Minister of Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar, Charan Jeath Singh among other senior government officials.
President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere and Jaishankar jointly opened the Conference. At the opening ceremony, the Government of Fiji issued a commemorative postage stamp. A special Samarika and five other publications were also published for this reason.
The Conference was attended by some 1,000 participants from more than 31 countries, including some 500 from India and 300 from Fiji.
Academics and experts from all over the world discussed in depth the various themes of the Conference. Various books and periodicals were also launched on the sidelines of the Conference.
8th India-Kazakhstan Consultation of Ministry of Foreign Affairs
A total of 12 Hindi specialists from India and 19 from abroad, as well as 2 institutions from India and abroad, were selected to be congratulated during the Conference for promoting and propagating Hindi.
Of them, 13 Hindi specialists from India and abroad, including two institutions from each category, were congratulated in person during the closing ceremony.
Among other highlights of the closing ceremony, Fiji’s Deputy Prime Minister Biman Prasad delivered a speech in Hindi highlighting the steps Fiji has taken to promote Hindi, including allowing Hindi speeches in the Fijian Parliament .
Participation from South and North East India, including the laureates, was also emphasized at the Conference.
