Thailand is preparing for a hotter summer this year. The Meteorological Department forecasts an average temperature increase of one degree Celsius compared to last year.
According to the Director General, Chomparee Chompurat, the North has already experienced the hottest weather this week, with maximum temperatures of 41.5ºC. This hotter than usual weather pattern is also expected to prevail in most areas of upper Thailand at least until the end of March.
The summer season is expected to last until mid-May. Bangkok and surrounding provinces will experience maximum temperatures of 38-39ºC.
The Government of Thailand will raise awareness on the protection of personal data
However, Chomparee points out that this year the cold season has lasted two weeks longer than usual. The cold season, which usually ends in mid-February, ended earlier this month, partly due to cold snaps moving south from China.
To avoid heat stroke and other heat-related illnesses, the Met Office has advised people in highland Thailand to take precautions and avoid spending a lot of time outdoors.
Staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water, wearing lightweight, light-colored clothing, and avoiding being outdoors during the hottest hours of the day are all recommended measures to stay safe during the hottest summer.
