The Thai fruit crop is forecast to increase 3% in 2023, and the authorities will try to apply measures to guarantee the quality of these products.
Thailand’s Department of Domestic Trade Director General Wattanasak Sur-iam said this year’s crop is expected to rise 3% to 6.78 million tons due to cooler weather from late 2022 to early this year. The agency has also arranged meetings with relevant agencies to discuss how to better manage the supply and control the quality of Thai fruits that are exported to markets around the world.
According to Wattanasak, the agency is collaborating with the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives to apply 22 measures focused on four areas: production, domestic marketing, foreign marketing and legal issues.

These measures include the inspection and certification of the Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) standards for farmers, the use of a contract farming model for the advance purchase of fruits, help to farmers and companies to distribute their products outside their zones, as well as organizing mobile grocery stores to buy and sell fruit during their peak season.
The Ministry of Commerce has set an export target of 4.44 million tons of fresh and processed fruit, which represents an increase of 10% in quantity and value compared to the 4.04 million tons of 2022, worth 263 billion baht. The Ministry also intends to boost domestic fruit consumption, while maintaining high demand from international markets such as China throughout 2023.
