Mae Fah Luang Chiang Rai International Airport, Thailand, has reopened after the removal of a Nok Air plane from its runway.
According to Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob, Airports of Thailand (AOT) and the Department of Airports (DOA) have carried out a security check and have removed all traces of foreign objects from the runway where a Boeing 737-800 aircraft of Nok Air skidded while attempting a night landing on July 30, causing flights to be canceled and the airport to close.
On Thursday, August 4, officials from the Thai Civil Aviation Authority carried out an independent inspection of the runway.

Chiang Raiy Airport Director Somchanok Tiamtiabrat stated that the process of removing the stranded aircraft from the runway, which was carried out in accordance with the International Civil Aviation Organization’s aircraft removal regulations, had to be carried out carefully to prevent further damage to the vehicle’s landing gear and injury to rescue personnel, subsequently causing the delay in the airport’s opening.
